Depression among patient 's with renal diseases and it's relationship with some variables (A case study in patient's in Gezira Hospital for nephrology , surgery and Renal Diseases State – Sudan(2013)

Abstract
Depression is one of the common mental health problems and it has negative effects on patient's life especially among patients with renal diseases. The study aims at studying depression in patients with renal diseases, renal failure and their relation to some variables, including; age, sex, educational level, marital status, residence, occupation, duration of the diseases, diagnosis and renal transplantation . This study was conducted in Gezira Hospital for nephrology surgery and renal diseases. The total sample consisted of (446) patients, (223) patients with renal failure,(223) patients with other renal diseases. Data was collected using Beck Depression inventory (BDI) and a questionnaire designed by the researcher. The statistical package for social sciences (SPSS) was used for data analysis. The results of the study showed that: There is a statistically significant relationship between the occurrence of depression among patients with renal failure and renal diseases. There are statistically significant differences in the occurrence of depression between patients with renal failure (6.7%) and renal diseases (13.9%) (in favor of patients with renal failure). There are statistically significant differences in the occurrence of depression between renal failure and renal diseases patients related to sex (in favor of the male). There are statistically significant differences in the occurrence of depression between patients with renal failure and renal diseases' related to educational level (in favor of high levels). There are no statistically significant differences in the occurrence of depression between patients with renal failure and renal diseases related to age .There are statistically significant differences in the occurrence of depression between patients with renal failure and renal diseases related to marital status ( in favor of the unmarried). There are statistically significant differences in the occurrence of depression between patients with renal failure and renal diseases related to occupation (in favor of the employed ). The study emphasized the importance of mental health care, to be provided to patients with renal failure and renal diseases, as well as the need specialized training for health providers on that issue
